As a photographer one of the things that excites me most (besides nailing a great shot) is being published. While being “published” can have several different manifestations I’m talking about having your work done in a printed publication.
I have lots and lots of photos out there that are on blogs, websites, Facebook ads and posts ( yes, I do screen shot them when those things happen for portfolio purposes which would be a wise move for any photographer to do) and posters, brochures, business cards, etc.
Recently I did a post called “Beauty That’s So Commercial” it was for a good friend of mine who owns a hair solon and his buddy who owns a skate shop. Beauty, fashion and skateboarding, is there really anything better? Anyway, it was for an ad they were putting together for a local magazine called The Little Village. This publication reaches out to about 40,000+ people. It is the largest magazine published in the area and I was shooting for the inside cover. While this isn’t the first time I’ve done this I still get the same feelings every time.
The excitement of everyone getting ready, beautiful models, music blasting, alcohol, clothes being thrown around, everyone stressing but also having a blast. Even now it gives me a rush just thinking about it. And all for the purpose of creating this peice.
Now that I’ve worked this up so much the final product may in fact not look all that exciting, or very simple, or just another ad. But if you could have a experienced the whole thing from start to finish you would be as excited as I am. These are the reasons I love what I do.
